Can We Get Along? New Milwaukee Initiative To Unite Latinos, African-Americans

- By

When looking at race and poverty, Milwaukee is the most segregated city in the country. And it is the most politically divided as well.

Now a new initiative hopes at least to bring together African Americans and Latinos in the city.

Called “The Blacktino Initiative in Wisconsin,” the initiative will launch March 27th with the goal of bringing the minority communities together. The hope is that it will result in creating safer neighborhoods, and that the two communities work towards more jobs and better schools, reports Fox 6.

“As we move forward, we have so many things to be happy about, so many things to celebrate, and we also have challenges and we will never overcome them if we are not talking and working with one another,” Milwaukee Alderman Jose Perez said.

A March 27th event will officially launch the campaign at the Tripoli Shrine Center.

What do you think should be done, wherever you are, to bring together these two minorities groups?
