Jordin Sparks On Life Post-Jason Derulo: “Some Days I Was Like, ‘I Don’t Eff With You!'”

March 4, 2015  |

When we last heard from Jordin Sparks, she revealed a lot about the end of her relationship with Jason Derulo. Sparks noted Derulo told her he loved her while bidding her a safe trip as she prepared to travel for work in September 2014. Since then, the “American Idol” winner turned actress has not spoken to him. In her latest interview with our sister site Bossip, Sparks provided more details on their disturbing breakup and shared what she would say if she were to see her old flame today. Here are a few highlights:

If She Is Over Talking About Jason

“It happened and it’s a part of my history. Someone will mention it and I’ll answer. I’m pretty much an open book— I don’t shy away from things. It was just funny how the whole situation played out…everyone said it was turning dirty. But that’s not what was happening, [y’all are spinning it to be that]. I was just speaking on facts that I was given (referring to her January 2015 Power 105 Breakfast Club interview). And if they weren’t, all he had to do was call me and I would have been like ‘my bad guys!’”

If She Has Anything To Say To Jason

“If he called, I don’t know what we would have to talk about now. It’s one of those things that sometimes you don’t get closure [from]. You just move on…you just keep going. If I saw him, like at Clive [Davis’ Pre-Grammy] party the other night —it was really funny, I said ‘hello’ to his security guard but I think he (Jason) tried to avoid me. That’s okay, whatever! I’m open, I would be like ‘Hey! How ya doing? I wish you all the best’ I wish him all the best and don’t wish any ill will towards him. Some relationships work, some don’t.”

If Her Mixtape, #ByeFelicia, was about Jason

“Yes! The crazy thing is,  it’s funny when you release a song that makes people [gasp] and say “Oh my gosh, I know who that’s about!” And all of a sudden it’s weird to people that someone does that. But that’s what all songs are inspired by. Whether you’re an artist or songwriter, you’re inspired by the things that happen in your life. So that’s going to happen and I want to be able to  express myself in that way. It was very therapeutic for during that time period. Some days it was like “yeah girl, you rock! Girl Power!” Some days I was really sad and some days I was like, “I don’t eff with you!” It came in all different forms and that’s how it came out on the mixtape. And that’s how it will be on the record as well because I got to write a lot.”
