Last week, a blue and black dress broke the internet and created the debate of the century over whether the dress was actually white and gold. (Nope.) The debate sparked tons of interest in the dress, sending sales flying through the roof. The sellers of the dress, Roman Originals, say the company’s sales have increased by 347 percent.
Buzzfeed says the discussion of the dress went viral after Caitlin McNeill, owner of the dress, asked Tumblr followers what colors they saw when they looked at it. Her band was scheduled to perform at her friend’s wedding and when her friend and fiancé saw the dress they believed it to be white and gold. McNeil and others thought the dress was blue and black.
As McNeil, her friends and the entire world debated over the color, some said “Who cares?!” (very few people, TBH). Others thought is was downright ugly.
But there’s no accounting for taste, and plenty of others are spending money to get their hands on it. The controversial dress costs $77.13 and is available in three color combinations. Unfortunately white and gold is not an option. Visitors to the site have also been purchasing other items, a bonus win for Roman Originals.
