There are some culinary creations that make you wonder how and why would anyone ever think of that dish. We’re sure a new product from KFC will have many shaking their heads.
KFC in the UK is developing something called the “Scoff-ee Cup.” Now get this: it is an edible coffee cup that smells like grass (yes grass as in fresh-cut lawns) and sunscreen (hmm), and tastes like chocolate.
Although the Scoff-ee Cub is still in the testing phase, a KFC press release states that the treat “has been made from a unique biscuit, wrapped in sugar paper, and lined with an indulgent layer of heat-resistant white chocolate.” And as you drink your coffee, the cups’ white chocolate lining will “begin to melt, slowly.”
KFC tapped experimental food company Robin Collective to make the cups smell of “coconut sun cream, freshly cut grass and wild flowers” scents. According to the press release, that’s because the scents “evoke the positive memories we associate with warm weather, sunshine and summer holidays.”
The cups will probably appear the same time as KFC restaurants plan to introduce Seattle’s Best Coffee, from Starbucks, reports The New York Times.
“We have been experimenting with edible packaging to see if it could be a feasible product to bring to market in limited quantities,” Jocelyn Bynoe, brand manager for Yum’s international operations, said in a statement. KFC is part of the Yum Brand family.
The Scoff-ee Cup will only be offered in the UK with no plans to bring it to the U.S. At least not yet, reports The Huffington Post.
Edible packaging seems to be a hot trend now, especially with millennials. But we wonder if the Scoff-ee will really take off. What do you think?
