We are so ready for this N.W.A biopic. Been ready. Folks were so thirsty that they taped the trailer from a screen when Ice Cube debuted it at an event, recently. With biopics stirring up all types of controversy when families don’t approve and the rights to music aren’t secured, we were happy to learn that Cube, and Dr. Dre were behind it, guaranteeing authenticity and hopefully, some quality.
The film, which will be distributed by Universal Pictures and directed by F. Gary Gray (Friday, Set It Off, and The Italian Job), will tell the story of five young men from the hood uniting to tell their stories through raw and honest music that threatened law enforcement, authority and conservative parents. But in the midst of pissing a whole lot of people off, they also revolutionized music and pop culture forever and gave a voice to a generation and community which had often been ignored.
As we reported earlier, Ice Cube will be played by his son O’Shea Jackson Jr, (also known as OMG), Dr. Dre by Corey Hawkins (Iron Man 3), and Eazy E by Jason Mitchell (Broken City).
Now, that the official trailer has been released, I see just how timely this movie is. In the newly released video, Dre and Ice Cube ride around discussing the impact they made on music. And Ice Cube profoundly states,
“The same thing we were going through in the ’80’s with the police, people are going through right now.”
