After being married for twenty years, Tamara Tunie has announced that her marriage to jazz musician Gregory Generet has come to an end.
According to Page Six, the 55-year-old “Law and Order: SVU” actress confirmed the separation in a released statement, which reads:
“It is with a great deal of sadness that Gregory and I are going our separate ways. But, I am looking with optimism at what the future holds. As we transition through this new phase of our lives, we ask for privacy and thank you for your support.”
It’s currently unclear what pushed the Harlem residents to throw in towel. Just three years ago, the pair chatted with Essence about the longevity of their relationship.
“We’re not joined at the hip,” Generet, told the magazine. “We can be in the same room and be in different places in the room and not have to be near each other at every moment. Yet we can just feel each other’s presence all the time.”
The couple made it clear that time together is equally as important as time apart in a relationship.
“Even though you’re married, you’re still individuals,” said Tunie. “You still have to grow and nurture your individuality. And what you have to gather is the marriage. Each partner brings his or her own special joy to that marriage and that’s what helps the marriage grow. You have to continue to grow and evolve as individuals in order for your marriage to evolve. It takes two pillars to support a structure. If those two pillars become one, you have a structure that teeters.”
This is Tunie’s second marriage and she and Generet don’t have children together. Her first union to Greg Bouquett ended in 1991. It’s unfortunate that these two were not able to work through their issues, but we’re wishing them both the very best.
