Richard Sherman May Miss Super Bowl If Girlfriend Goes Into Labor

Richard Sherman may miss Super Bowl XLIX this weekend if more pressing matters arise. According to the New York Daily News, the Seattle Seahawks cornerback and his girlfriend are expecting their first child together.

Apparently, Ashley Moss is scheduled to deliver their baby boy any day now—and if she happens to go in labor Sunday, then the 26-year-old California native may be skipping out on the big game.

“He’s not supposed to come on Sunday,” Sherman revealed Thursday during a pre-Super Bowl press conference in Arizona. “Obviously that would change some things, but I think he’s going to be a disciplined young man and stay in there until after the game. He’s going to do his father his first favor and stay in there for another week or two.”

However, if things happen to go another way, there’s a chance he’ll miss the game.

“I’ve thought about the possibility of him coming during the game or before the game, and we have things in place in case that happens,” Sherman said. “We’ll cross that bridge when we get there.”

Of course, he’ll be forced to endure a ton of backlash should he decide to bail on Sunday’s game; however, the birth of his first child certainly takes precedence over his second Super Bowl game.

“I know the world will be on his back if he doesn’t come to the game,” said Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett. “But I think Sherm will make the right decision. It’s only once in a lifetime you get to see your kid born, but it’s only once in a lifetime you get to the Super Bowl. It’s a hard decision.”

Many of his Seahawks teammates have already encouraged him to choose his family should he be forced to make a decision.

“If he has to go see his child being born, please go,” said linebacker K.J. Wright. “Because that’s definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience. We’ll be OK. That’s something where the memories will last a lifetime. The Super Bowl will too, but family’s got to come first.”

“Unfortunately it’s the biggest stage in sports. But a new life?” added teammate Cliff Avril. “That’s way more important to me and it should be more important to him.”

Only time will tell how all of this will unfold.
