Marion “Suge” Knight has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident, CNN reports.
The accident followed an altercation that occurred Thursday on a film set affiliated with Ice Cube and Dr. Dre’s Straight Outta Compton. The altercation eventually made its way to the parking lot of Tam’s Burgers, which is located near the set.
Eyewitnesses say that they saw Knight drive over two men twice in his red pick-up truck before speeding away. One victim, who TMZ has identified as Terry Carter, 55, died from his injuries. The condition of the other victim, Cle Sloan, 51, has not yet been disclosed. Sloan is an actor who has appeared in other movies including Training Day and End of Watch. The celebrity gossip site is reporting that Carter was actually a friend of Knight and that they arrived at the movie set together. However, Los Angeles police Lt. John Corina has revealed that investigators believe that Knight intended to mow down at least one of the victims, as one of the men was involved in the prior altercation.
“So far, people we talked to said it looked like it was an intentional act. So we’re handling it as a homicide,” Corina said.
Sadly, it’s believed that Knight followed both men from the movie set to the burger joint parking lot.
“A red pickup truck is involved in this, and those people were also at the other altercation, so yes, it all suggests that he was the person driving that truck.”
Later that night, investigators discovered Knight’s Ford Raptor abandoned in Westwood, California. Suge eventually turned himself in. He is being held in lieu of $2 million bond.
We’ve been informed by Ice Cube’s publicist that he was not present at the time of the incident.
“Cube has no comment. He was not there,” a spokeswoman told us via email.
We will continue to keep you posted as new details emerge.
