Was Kenya Moore Behind This Tacky “Black Wives Matter” Ad?

Kenya’s Moore’s messy track record is no secret. She can be quite petty. But if this latest stunt is indeed hers, homegirl might have sunken to a new low.

So here’s what happened.

Earlier this week readers of RealityTea started sending the site the “Real Housewives of Atlanta” flyers they had seen around  Atlanta. But these flyers were different. Turning a phrase from the police brutality protests, the posters said “Black Wives Matter.”

Clearly, spinning a phrase from a cause and an issue that has literally cost people their lives, is very tasteless.

And the viewers wanted answers. Who did this?

Well, RealityTea reached out to Bravo and the network responded:

“These posters were not created by or in any way affiliated with Bravo.”

Shortly after that, a company reached out to RealityTea kinda sorta taking responsibility for printing and posting the flyers. But what’s interesting about this ‘apology’ is that they implicated Kenya Moore in the whole idea.

“To whom it may concern,

We would like to start by apologizing for our involvement in the Black Wives Matter Bravo TV Real Housewives of Atlanta posters.  This was never supposed to happen the way it did.  We are part of a design team from Chicago that also works out of New York City.  We were hired by who we believe was a representative of Ms. Kenya Moore in early December to design and print these posters.

We are deeply sorry for propagating social injustice and pain in America.  We are coming out about this because it has conflicted with our morals as a multi-racial design team.  Major corporations and celebrities continue to exploit our culture for economic gain and as designers need to begin to stand our ground.

Unfortunately through the Atlanta team’s manipulation techniques they are attempting to gain recognition through controversy and we feel this is immoral.  This must stop NOW.  Bravo and their affiliates must be held accountable because they continue to promote bad role models and distract our culture of the critical issues facing our country.

To prove it was us we attached the original .PSD file with all the separate image layers.  The posters were sent early Jan to a PO box in Atlanta.  We do not know who put them up or where but we sent 50 total.  We are trying to stop the rest from being put up.  We are deeply sorry to anyone this hurt or angered. Again, we cannot apologize enough for allowing this period of cultural havoc to break down our already fragile society.”

Umm…Kenya is not my favorite person on television, but this scatterbrained idea plus this ‘throw you under the bus’ statement is just ridiculous.

First, if Kenya was the one who asked the company to print the flyers, their antennae should have gone up they read the words “Black Wives Matter.” Now, a printing company doesn’t have to protect their clients against any backlash but I do think it’s odd that they were so willing to name Kenya when they merely think it was a representative for her.

Considering that they provided the original file, they should have also provided the receipts showing that they believed it was Kenya’s rep behind this. Thirdly, it just seems odd that Kenya would be promoting the show in this way. RHOA is not struggling for ratings and if she wanted people to watch, posting flyers on the side of random buildings just seems outdated and unlikely. She has plenty of social media clout. And ultimately, it’s Bravo’s job to promote their programing, typically on the medium in which it will be consumed: television and the internet.

The whole thing is just off. And in the messy world that is reality television and particularly RHOA, I wouldn’t be surprised if someone were trying to set Kenya up.
