Have You Heard Of This? A New Trend That Means The End Of Marriage
Have you heard of a divorce celebration?
Once upon a time, divorce was the worst thing that could happen to a married couple. But now the divorce industry is booming and a divorce celebration, divorce ring and even a divorce cake are the latest ways to celebrate the end of your marriage. Would you participate?
This couple brought national attention with this twist on the wedding selfie: the divorce selfie. The two captioned the photo, “We are officially un-married. Here’s to the most friendly, respectful, and loving split imaginable. We smile not because it’s over, but because it happened.”
Businesses like The Divorce Party Planner are making millions taking newly-divorced singles on Las Vegas part tours that put bachelorette parties to shame.
Party packages like “Barley Survived,” “Self Sufficient,” and “I Got It All” range from $1,000 to $4,800.
The Divorce Ceremony
It’s just like your wedding day, but instead of joining two lives a divorce ceremony splits them apart. Ex-husbands and ex-wives invite their friends and family to celebrate the start of their new lives a separate people.
Divorce proceedings can run anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars. So some married couples have divorce parties with a collection box at the door. That way friends and family can chip in for the end of their marriage just like they did in the beginning.
Some women re-invent their wedding rings, others use the divorce to go shopping for a new one.
Cakes aren’t just for weddings anymore. Cake shops like this one are reporting “three to four” requests for divorce cakes every month. The most requested design? A picture of the bride dragging a groom by the leg, with a sign that says “take him to the trash”.
Hotels around the country are developing packages that help couples get divorced over the weekend. For around $5,000 couples check in on Friday and leave divorced by Sunday.
Divorce Spa Weekend
More popular than the divorce hotel is the divorce spa. For around the same price, you can center your quickie weekend divorce with relaxation to help each party let go.
I guess divorce tattoos kind of make sense… You might not always be married, but you’ll always be divorced.

What do you get someone who’s having a divorce party? Apparently a divorce card…
Hallmark actually makes these. They’re part of the growing industry of divorce presents to go along with divorce celebrations.
The Divorce Song
Are we getting carried away now? The divorce song sounds just like the Birthday Song and it even comes with sheet music so your friends can play it for you live.
Now that your life has changed, why not change your surroundings too?
I like to think this trend started with Waiting to Exhale.
