“I Thought I Was Going To Die:” Nicki Minaj Talks Being “Haunted” By Her Decision To Have An Abortion
Nicki Minaj has pretty much been an open book these days. In addition to opening up about the difficulties surrounding her split from longtime boyfriend, Safaree Samuels, the “Bed of Lies” rapper recently discussed deciding to terminate a pregnancy during her high school years.
She shared the emotional tale inside of the latest issue of Rolling Stone, which hits newsstands January 2. While attending New York’s popular LaGuardia High School, the aspiring starlet was dating an older guy, who she admits was her first love. The romance resulted in an unplanned pregnancy and she was faced with a major decision.
“I thought I was going to die,” Nicki confessed. “I was a teenager. It was the hardest thing I’d ever gone through.”
She eventually settled on the decision to terminate the pregnancy—a decision that she admits has “haunted me all my life.” However, she feels that she made the right choice for her situation at the time.
“It’d be contradictory if I said I wasn’t pro-choice. I wasn’t ready. I didn’t have anything to offer a child.”
This, of course, isn’t the first time we’ve heard of the abortion. She rapped about it on one of her earlier mixtape tracks titled “Autobiography”—a song she admits she says that she “didn’t expect anyone to hear.” She addressed the decision again on a track featured on her new album The Pinkprint titled “All Things Go.”
