#TGIT is returning on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2015. Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) and Annalise Keating (Viola Davis) fans couldn’t be more excited. But they aren’t the only black women characters and entertainers MadameNoire is looking forward to in 2015. Here’s a list of 15 new projects for and by black women that we’re anticipating in 2015.

Lupita Nyong’o & Star Wars: The Force Awakens

If anything is for sure Lupita Nyong’o is excited about her upcoming film and role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. When she was officially casted back in June of 2014 she said according to E! Online, “I can finally say it out loud and proud: I’m going to a galaxy far, far away!”

There have been rumors about her role since her casting, and MN will allow you to read some of the theories. But being that there are huge Star Wars fans out there, you might want to wait to see why this Oscar winner is excited Friday, Dec. 18, 2015.

Whitney Houston biopic

After that disastrous Aaliyah biopic Lifetime created, fans and critics weren’t looking forward to the Whitney Houston biopic. That was until the trailer was released and director Angela Bassett shut all the haters down.

Watch the trailer to “Whitney” here again and be blown away.

The film will be Lifetime’s chance at redemption and will premiere on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015. So Houston fans won’t have to wait much longer for this film.

Home, 2015 movie and Rihanna’s soundtrack

Not only is pop star Rihanna starring as the lead in Dreamworks animated film, Home, she’s created a conceptual album for the film — consisting of 12 original songs. RiRi most likely will be giving her fans her most family-friendly feel with the film and soundtrack since her debut. She plays Tip, a resourceful teenage girl who avoids capture from an Alien race called Boov trying to help the human race by relocating them from Earth.

Home hits theaters on Friday, March 27, 2015.

“Bessie” Biopic

Queen Latifah is bringing blues icon Bessie Smith’s life to the small screen.

HBO hasn’t set a release for the film, but we do know it’s coming in 2015, and it’s highly anticipated.

Watch a preview here.

“Empire” Premiere

“Empire” is a highly anticipated Fox series folks won’t have to wait too much longer to see. The show will premiere on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015. It stars Terrence Howard as a terminally-ill rap mogul creating competition among his three sons to take over his throne. Taraji P. Henson plays his ex-wife who helped him build his empire and took the fall for the drug dealing, which the label was found upon. She stirs up some drama when she is released from prison and is ready to rightfully take what is hers.

The White Sistas

The stars of “Hollywood Divas” Lisa Wu, Countess Vaughn, Elise Neal, Golden Brooks and Paula Jai Parker play sisters with a whole lot of family drama in this anticipated short film. But the real drama was among the cast while filming. Vaughn had Lipo surgery and was upset about how her co-stars tried to remove her from the cast. Parker booked other gigs and was too busy to direct half the time. And so much more happened while filming. Nevertheless, the ladies created something special together, which is apparent in the film’s trailer.

Jordin Sparks’ Right Here, Right Now

Pop star and “American Idol” winner Jordin Sparks just released the lead single, “It Ain’t You,” to her upcoming third album, Right Here, Right Now. The club banger was officially released about two weeks ago on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2014.

The song is about a scrub-like guy trying to get with her, but it ain’t him she needs. MN wonder if she is somewhat referring to ex Jason Derulo.

Nevertheless, the album is expected to be released in early 2015. Some of the material from her mixtape, #ByeFelicia, will be featured on the LP as well as new material.

Fantasia’s Next Album

“American Idol” winner and R&B star Fantasia announced back in November 2014 she is in the studio working on her fifth studio album with R&B icon R. Kelly. She posted a clip on Instagram of her working with him. She captioned it,  “Still Going… Rock Soul LIVES…. This Man Is Teaching Me So Much About Music?? what a Freaking Gift… My Big Bro for LIFE… R Kelly is Music #thatyoucant #takeaway.” As she said, her next album will have a rock soul feel to it, which would be a new sound for the singer.

Chocolate City

Just look at the picture to the left. You have Tyson Beckford, Robert Ri’chard, Michael Jai White, Darrin Dewitt Henson to name a few of the “chocolates” and “caramels” featured in the film.

Need MN say more?

Oh, well there’s the possibility Beckford could bare it all he revealed to Dish Nation. “I do realize that probably for the last 22 years women have wanted to see the package,” Tyson said. “I have no problem showing it. I don’t know if we are going to do any frontal, but I don’t care – I am not shy.”

“Light Girls”

After the acclaimed release of “Dark Girls,” Bill Duke returns with “Light Girls” to continue the series focused on addressing blackness and colorism in the community. He said, With these films, I’m not trying to judge anybody and just presenting the truth of how people feel,” he said. “My point with this film is that you [dark skinned and light skinned] both should stop.

The documentary goes beyond light-skinned privilege, but tackles abuse when it comes to color as his previous doc did.

It premieres on OWN on Monday, Jan. 19, 2015.

Viola Davis’ Lila & Eve

Viola Davis might be one of TV’s biggest stars, but she’s returning to the big screen to star in Lila & Eve. She plays Lila, a grieving mother who teams up with another distraught mother Eve (Jennifer Lopez) to avenge the deaths of their sons who were gunned down in a drive-by shooting after the police fail to do anything about it. Yes! We will finally get to see Davis in a thriller where she takes matters into her own hands. Also, it’s been a minute since we’ve seen Lopez in this kind of role. The drama-thriller will be released on Friday, Jan. 30, 2015 in theaters.

Halle Berry’s Kidnap

Like Viola Davis, Halle Berry is a movie star turned TV star — leading the CBS sci-fi thriller, “Extant.” But that doesn’t mean she’s giving up on film. Berry is still one of Hollywood’s greatest leading ladies. She’s returning to another thrilling role in Kidnap where she plays a mother who stops at nothing to recover her kidnapped son.

The film is expected to be released on Friday, Oct. 9, 2015.

Lifetime’s “With This Ring”

“Super excited to share the news that my first novel I wrote with Denene Millner and Mitzi Miller is being made into a movie! Starring Jill Scott, Eve and Regina Hall, the movie [is] based on our book, “The Vow,” will air on Lifetime this year. #thenow #threetimesdope #dropsmic,” Angela Burt-Murray wrote about the film on social media.

Rom com fans are also super excited to see the film’s premiere on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015 at 8/7c.

“K.C. Undercover”

Zendaya is returning to Disney Channel with “K.C. Undercover.” She plays K.C. Cooper, a tech wiz and martial artist who discovers that both her parents are spies. Also, she realizes she’s expected to follow in their footsteps.

It’s another Disney series with a black girl kicking butt and taking the lead.

The series is expected to premiere in early 2015.

Dawn Richard’s Blackheart

Richard’s follow up, Blackheart, to Goldenheart is expected to be released in early 2015 — Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015 — exactly two years after her last album.

The album will finally drop after she put it on held to be a member of Danity Kane again. And we all know how that turned out.

She released the video for “Blow” on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2014. And it indicated Dawn Richard is about to “blow” up!
