Officials: NYPD Shooter’s Ex-Girlfriend In Critical, But Stable Condition
Over the weekend, many of us were shocked to learn about the execution-style murders of NYPD Officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu, who were gunned down by a man who claimed to be seeking revenge for the deaths of Eric Garner and Michael Brown. Prior to traveling to New York, investigators say gunman Ismaaiyl Brinsley also shot his ex-girlfriend, Shaneka Nicole Thompson, 29.
The shooting occurred in Thompson’s Owen Mills, Maryland apartment on Saturday at approximately 6 a.m., WUSA 9 reports. She was wounded in the stomach with a 9mm semiautomatic handgun.
According to officials, she is in critical, but stable condition and is expected to survive. Currently, not much is known about the pair’s romance or what led to the shooting. The relationship between Thompson and Brinsley dates back less than a year. Both New York and Maryland investigators are hoping to interview Thompson, who is a member of the Air Force Reserve.
Officers were able to recover a shell casing from the scene of the crime and believe that the very same gun was used to kill Ramos and Liu.
We will continue to keep you posted as further details emerge.
