Get Right, Right Now: Why You Shouldn’t Always Wait Until The New Year To Do And Be Better

Tis the season to be jolly. Not only is it the season to be filled with joy and happiness, but it’s also the time of the year to spend with loved ones.

Oh yeah, its also the time to make New Year’s resolutions as another 365 days vastly approaches.

You know, those routine promises people often make to themselves. The list of things they won’t stand for and improvements they want to make as they try to be a better person…starting next year. But what about trying to be better right now?

I’ve often wondered why so many people decide to make serious plans and changes, but wait to act upon them until the start of a new year. Why do all that when you can begin taking the necessary steps toward changes you want to see and make way before then? Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with making New Year’s resolutions, but there is no reason why you can’t start making a difference in your life right away. Here are a few reasons to stop waiting for a new year and start doing right, right now.

Although the new year is right around the corner, it’s not promised to you. Honestly, the next day is not promised to you, and you don’t want to leave the world only having made plans to do things differently, but not acting upon them. So many times people simply plan to do things but never get the chance to act upon them. Don’t let this be you!

Another reason to get started on your changes as soon as possible is because you want to start implementing new patterns and habits and start dropping old ones now so you’ll already have a new routine. Old habits are hard to let go of, and if you start getting into practice little by little on a daily basis before the new year, then a major transition will be smooth and easier to keep up with. For example, so many times we start going to the gym faithfully or swear we’re going to eat better in January. While we start off strong, we tend to fall off of the wagon less than halfway through the year and see minimal results. But if we start planning and implementing ahead of time, we can adjust accordingly for longevity in our results.

If you wait for the new year to start something new, chances are you’ll procrastinate in getting started and you may do the same things that didn’t work for you last year. If you’re serious about making certain changes or starting new adventures, then you should be eager to move forward and start right where you are. There’s an old saying that goes, why put off tomorrow what you can do today? I think that should apply to making resolutions for the beginning of a new year.

The last reason why you shouldn’t wait for a new year to start fresh is because waiting to start a goal only halts you from reaching final results. When you’ve made or make plans and start the hard work, you’re eager and excited to see the final results. But if you’re putting off putting those plans into action, then you’re only pushing yourself further away from where you want and need to be. Don’t halt your own greatness, get moving and get started now!

Every day you wake up, you have another chance to start fresh and you should make every day above the ground count. Start now and go into the year already in motion. You’ll be surprised at the results.
