After months of mounting rape allegations and silence from the Cosby camp, Bill and Camille are both speaking out.
This weekend, Bill Cosby came forward claiming he expected the Black media to stay neutral. And now in a statement released to CBS News, Camille is speaking out as well, defending her husband.
You know… I’m starting to understand why these two haven’t been speaking out. Now, it just seems like emotions are running as high as they ever were and they’re speaking off the cuff, no preparation and apparently no guidance. If I had to put my finger on it, I’d say that Beverly Johnson’s story in addition to Spelman College suspending his professorship, has them…for lack of a better term, shook.
The fact that Mrs. Cosby compared her husband to a rape victim in this situation is not only ironic, it evokes a very damning image, in a statement that was probably meant to elicit sympathy for him. And while there are some holes in Jackie’s rape story, it hasn’t been completely disproven. There are still several people who support her account. And comparing one faulty story to some pretty consistent ones from twenty different women, over decades and decades of time, saying that your husband drugged and raped them, is a different matter.
And the line about her husband being the man we knew on television…it’s problematic. There are no discrepancies between Heathclif Huxtable and Bill Cosby? That just seems hard to believe.
