Jordin Sparks Talks Jason Derulo Diss Track: “I Want My Fans To Hear This Side Of Me”

December 12, 2014  |

While Jason Derulo was out on his infamous breakup tour, Jordin Sparks opted not to say much about what led to their very public split. This of course, is why many were shocked when the former “American Idol” contestant released a diss track about the “Marry Me” singer.

On the song, which was released last month and titled, “How About Now,” Jordin aired out her feelings about their relationship and breakup.

She sings:

“Once you blew up, head got big and you started changing.

Can’t believe all the things that you started saying.

Like I’m with you for your fame and your name. What?”

During a recent chat with E! Online, the 24-year-old beauty spoke on why she released the song even though she knew it would be controversial.

“I knew it was going to get crazy,” she shared. “I was nervous to put it out there because no one had ever heard me like this before.”

“Every day was different and every day something new came out [during writing and recording sessions], and that day I was having one of those days where I was like, ‘I’m just going to do it and I want my fans to hear this side of me. They need to hear it.’…

My fans wanted to hear something but at the same time it wasn’t really planned and I just went into the studio and whatever came out, came out.”

Jordin also says that she has not heard from Jason since releasing the song. In addition to being featured on her mixtape, #ByeFelicia, the track will also appear on her new album, Right Here, Right Now.
