Smart Women Who Make Poor Choices In Men
These women hit the jackpot by being both beautiful and smart but for some reason when it comes to love, their choices are questionable at best.
On the outside looking in, Phaedra Parks and Apollo Nida seemed like the perfect reality TV couple but as the seasons progressed, their marriage wound up on rocky ground. When Apollo was busted for bank fraud and identity theft, it was all but done for them, especially considering Apollo was already a convicted felon who had previously served time in federal prison for six years. Phaedra, who recently got her fifth college degree, was a no show when Apollo appeared in court for sentencing and viewers of “Real Housewives of Atlanta” have watched as tensions rose between the two during his last few days of freedom.
Since “Love & Hip Hop Atlanta” introduced us to Mimi Faust, we’ve had a front row seat to her last two relationships. On season one, the business owner ended up in a losing battle versus Joseline Hernandez vying over Stevie J’s attention, even though he was the father of her daughter. And when she finally moved on from the hit-making producer, he was quickly replaced with a Stevie lookalike. But Nikko Smith came across as an even bigger creep who profited handsomely off of the “private” sex tape stolen from their luggage. Their relationship headed for a nosedive after it was reported on the internet that he was married.
“Love and Hip Hop” star Yandy Smith has always been about her business. After managing the careers of several artists including rapper Jim Jones, she has been looking to start her own independent label. But her personal life has been in limbo ever since her fiancé Mendeecees Harris was arrested on federal charges of drug trafficking. Yandy cared for their brand new baby and Mendeecees’ young son from a previous relationship while he sat in jail for over a year waiting to go before a judge. He was released earlier this year after his boo put up $200,000 as bail and within a few months, Yandy was pregnant again. Mendeecees is facing at 20 years in prison if convicted.
Yandy Smith isn’t the only “Love & Hip Hop New York” star who displayed questionable judgment in selecting men. When Tara Wallace joined the reality show with longtime boyfriend Peter Gunz and his artist Amina Buddafly, she had no idea that she was involved in a love triangle. Not only was he in a relationship with Amina, they had actually went down to City Hall and secretly tied the knot. After finding out that the father of her two sons was now someone else’s husband, an angry and hurt Tara, who was the only one working in the relationship, was still intimate with him. Eventually, they called things off for good especially after Amina became pregnant. But judging by the trailer for the upcoming season of the show, Tara and Peter have rekindled their romance.
Halle Berry was once voted as “People” magazine’s most beautiful woman but her personal life has shown that even the most gorgeous women will still get cheated on or end up with a broken heart. Berry has been 0-2 in her first two trips down the aisle. First hubby David Justice became notorious for his dalliances with prostitutes during their marriage and Eric Benet had been unfaithful also. The Oscar-winning actress fell in love with Canadian model Gabriel Aubry and even though they had a daughter together, it’s a good thing they didn’t get married. They have been engaged in a bitter custody battle ever since the split. Berry secretly wed actor Olivier Martinez last year but reports have surfaced that there is trouble in paradise already.
Eva Longoria thought she found love with NBA superstar Tony Parker but their marriage began with a fairytale wedding and ended after he cheated. The San Antonio Spur point guard had allegedly been caught having an affair with the wife of a fellow teammate. This was Longoria’s second marriage. She was previously married to “General Hospital” actor Tyler Christopher for two years. Longoria also had a very brief romance with NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez that quickly flamed out.
No one has a sweeter sounding voice than Jill Scott. It’s obvious from her music that the Philly native believes in love and she even wrote the song “He Loves Me” as a dedication to her husband Lyzel Williams. But their six-year marriage ended in 2007. Scott wasn’t alone for long and soon she had a new man and was expecting to have their baby. Two months after giving birth to their son, the “Getting In The Way” singer announced that she was a single woman yet again.
Garcelle Beauvais married agent Mike Nilon in 2001 and the two soon got started trying to start a family. After struggling with infertility issues for five years, the Haitian-born actress gave birth to twin boys. Bu when their sons were toddlers, Beauvais learned that her husband had been involved in an extramarital affair for five years. Clearly hurt and scorned, she outted him by sending an email to all of his co-workers, which was then reportedly leaked to the “New York Post.” They divorced a year later.
Joan Rivers may have been one of the funniest women on the planet but her daughter Melissa’s love life is anything but funny. Melissa was involved in an abusive relationship and she followed that up with a failed marriage. While starring on reality television, the single mother of one found out that her current boyfriend was trolling for sex on websites. It was no secret that her next boyfriend worked behind the scenes in the adult film world. They soon broke up, too.
Sandra Bullock’s dating history includes failed relationships with fellow actors Matthew McConaughey, Ryan Gosling and Ryan Reynolds. She was also engaged to Tate Donovan but they never made it down the aisle. None of her relationships crashed and burned as bad as her marriage to Jesse James though. The euphoric feeling Bullock felt after winning the Oscar for Best Actress soon dissipated after reports surfaced of her hubby’s serial infidelity. Lately the only constant male in her life has been her adopted son Louis.
After starring on a successful sitcom, Jennifer Aniston has become a leading lady on the big screen. But while her professional career has flourished, her love life hasn’t gone so well. The “Friends” star was married to one of the hottest actors around but their union quickly deteriorated soon after Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie starred together on “Mr. and Mrs. Smith.” Her ex-boyfriends include Vince Vaughn, Paul Rudd, serial womanizer John Mayer and Counting Crows frontman Adam Duritz. Aniston has been engaged to fellow actor Justin Thereoux since 2012.
Sheryl Crow has been successful in her career but unlucky in love. The country singer has been in a number of high-profile relationships and her list of ex-boyfriends include Eric Clapton and Owen Wilson. But her most famous ex is probably Lance Armstrong. Crow dated the disgraced cyclist for three years and they were even engaged. But they never made it down the aisle. After Armstrong came clean about his doping use, he was stripped of his medals and titles and sued over prize money. Armstrong was also investigated by the FBI and long after their relationship was over, Crow was summoned by authorities and questioned over what she knew about her ex’s wrongdoings.
When Anne Hathaway began dating Italian real estate developer Raffaello Follieri back in 2004, she did what any supportive girlfriend would do and became involved in his charity organization. Not only did she donate to the Follieri Foundation but the “Princess Diaries” star also became a member of its board of directors. But when the IRS started doing some digging in 2008, she couldn’t get away fast enough. Authorities confiscated Hathaway’s private journals and she was eventually cleared of any wrongdoings. Follieri ended up in prison after pleading guilty to a real estate scam that involved the Vatican.
