#AliveWhileBlack Hashtag Spotlights Black People’s Very Sad And Scary Interactions With Police

We told you earlier about the trending hashtag #CrimingWhileWhite and how white Twitter users shared their run-ins with law enforcement, which usually ended with a slap on the wrist or a “have a good night!” The point was to address racial bias in police (or at least that’s what folks claimed).

Well, EBONY editor Jamilah Lemieux started the hashtag #AliveWhileBlack, to share the very real and very scary experiences black folks have with police on a daily basis. Lemieux didn’t take issue with #CrimingWhileWhite, but wanted to share a counter-narrative (“I get the point of but I think we need some counter narratives…”), the hashtags show a vast difference in treatment and respect. Here are a few that we really were floored by, and some, sadly, that we could relate to because they’ve happened to us:
