Waka Flocka Flame Pitches Throat Drops In Odd Commercial
If you watched the American Music Awards, then you probably saw Waka Flocka Flame in a wacky commercial for Pine Bros. throat lozenges and thought maybe the awards organizers had started adding SNL-style skits to the lineup. Nope. This was for real.
In the ad the rapper, who has been busy touring and preparing for the release of his new album “Flockaveli 2,” promotes Pine Bros.’s natural flavored throat drops. “The clip shows Flame sitting solo on someone’s couch, basking in a suspicious smoke bath. Set to soothing piano lines, the musician — who may or may not have a penchant for greenery — lets you know that if you ever need sore-throat relief, for whatever reason, you should really check this brand out. ‘Can’t live without my Pine Brothers, straight up’,” reports Vulture.
Think it’s strange for such a company to hook up with Waka Flocka? Think again. “It’s actually on par with the awkwardness of the company’s similar Martha Stewart ad that aired during the Golden Globe Awards this past year. That, too, was a low-budget affair with Stewart talking right into the camera about the wonder of Pine Bros. cough drops. The spot was so strange that some wondered if it was some sort of hostage situation, but in an interview with Business Insider, the company confirmed that the ad had helped double sales since its debut,” reports The Washington Post.
And the surreal spot did what it was supposed to–it grabbed attention. It even took the focus from the AMAs for a minute.
