7- Laura Izibor
This Irish/Nigerian singer used Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston as her role models when she was growing up in Dublin. She’s found moderate success in the states, particularly with her song “Shine” which was featured on the “When In Rome” soundtrack. Laura’s voice is surprising. Looking at her you wouldn’t expect such an earthy tone. Although she’s not exactly a household name she’s opened for Aretha Franklin, John Legend and India Arie. That’s saying something, no?
