Stars Who Need To Get Off Reality TV
Sure they’ve made a lot of money by cashing in checks from reality television, but not everything lasts forever and these reality stars have long overstayed their welcome.
Ray J started off as an R&B singer but he’s made a pretty penny earning checks from reality television. He spent a lot of time in front of the cameras kissing a bevy of ladies looking for love. He also starred on a reality show with his big sister Brandy before he was recruited to bring his talents to “Love & Hip Hop Hollywood.” But since starring on reality television, Ray J has spent little time in the studio or focusing on his music. He’s even gotten into more than one physical altercation with a woman. That can’t be worth it.
Kenya Moore was brought in to spice things up on “Real Housewives of Atlanta” and she certainly accomplished that goal. Viewers were entertained watching the former beauty queen get into it with almost all of her castmates. But her turn on reality television took a turn after she was accused of faking a relationship with boyfriend Walter for the cameras. And she was further embarrassed when during the taping of the reunion show last season, she got into it with Porsha Williams and was dragged down to the floor by her hair.
Ray J introduced the world to Kim Kardashian with their sex tape but her mother Kris Jenner used that to help turn her entire family into reality show stars. “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” started back in 2007 and since then we’ve watched Kim, Khloe and Kourtney take on Hollywood, Miami, the Hamptons and seemingly every town in between. The family has become the biggest thing on reality television since Real World but everything must come to an end.
Teresa Guidice was the original villain on “Real Housewives of New Jersey” and she lived up to her reputation by flipping tables over. But after pleading guilty to fraud, the married mother of four will be facing a new reality come January 5th. Teresa is expected to turn herself in to start a 15-month sentence. Her husband Joe Guidice will go in to serve his sentence when she finishes hers. To help pay some of the fines and legal fees that they’ve racked up, Teresa is reportedly set to film a special that focuses on her countdown to prison.
Tamar Braxton can thank reality television for her singing career. She came into the world of reality television by starring on “Braxton Family Values” with her big sister Toni Braxton and her other siblings. Tamar’s over the top personality and memorable one-liners helped her stand out from everyone else. While her popularity helped her re-launch a singing career, it caused a rift in the sisterhood she shared with Toni, Traci, Trina and Towanda. They’ve accused her of letting the sudden fame get to her head. And it’s only gotten worse since getting her own spin-off show “Tamar & Vince.”
Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi
As soon as we saw Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi fist-pump her way up and down the Jersey coast, we were hooked. The pint-sized star’s antics made her an instant favorite and getting arrested for public intoxication bright and early in the day only made us love her even more. But by the time she gave birth to her first son with the cameras rolling we had enough. After “Jersey Shore” ended, she got a spin-off show with bff JWoww. The fourth and final season of “Snooki & JWoww” premiered earlier this month. Let’s hope this will be the last time Polizzi does reality TV.
Snooki certainly isn’t the only “Jersey Shore” alum who doesn’t know when to say when. Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino was the resident jerk of the show but deep down inside you knew it was just an act for the cameras. He cashed in on his popularity by supplementing his income with numerous club appearances as well as a spot on “Dancing with the Stars” and “Celebrity Big Brother.” This year, The Situation brought his family into his world with “The Sorrentinos” reality show that aired earlier this year.
When Phaedra Parks first joined “Real Housewives of Atlanta,” she was a newlywed in love with a baby on the way. But the mother of two young boys will now have to deal with raising her children alone after her husband Apollo Nida pleaded guilty to theft. This season of the show starts off with his sentencing and cameras will follow Parks as she deals with the aftermath. Even though reality television is providing a nice check, as an attorney and a funeral director, Parks has more than enough money to take some time away from the cameras and tend to her young sons.
Brandi Glanville joined “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” mainly because her divorce from actor Eddie Cibrian left her broke. Like most newbies, Glanville had a hard time fitting in with the other veterans on the show. She rubbed a few castmates the wrong way but she eventually found her way. Since starring on the show she’s used her newfound fame to continue a public feud with her ex-husband’s mistress-turned-wife LeAnn Rimes.
More than a decade after first taking the reality world by storm with her then bff Paris Hilton, Nicole Riche returned to living life in front of the camera. But the climate has changed in those ten years and although “The Simple Life” was a high rated show back then, “Candidly Nicole” hasn’t fared so well with finding an audience. The show averaged a paltry half a million viewers each episode but VH1 has announced that the show will be back for a second season anyway.
Draya Michele’s dating life helped her land a spot on “Basketball Wives LA” even though she wasn’t married to a baller. She went from being a friend on the show to one of the main castmates, but all good things must come to an end and now that she’s facing a sex tape scandal of her own, it might be time to take a break from reality television and let the fame die down a bit.
She’s back! Bethenny Frankel became a household name thanks to “Real Housewives of New York.” But with her Skinny Girl company raking in millions and millions of dollars and a brand new talk show of her own, Frankel was off to do bigger and better things. And she turned her nose up at the world she once came from. Now with a cancelled talk show under her belt, it was announced that Frankel is gearing up to return to reality television and “RHONY.”
We were introduced to Kate Gosselin along with the rest of her big family in “Jon & Kate Plus 8.” But after she and her husband split up, it was just Kate, the twins and sextuplets on “Kate Plus 8.” After that went off of the air, Kate just couldn’t stay away from the cameras. This summer TLC followed the family once again for a two-part special that chronicled the sextuplets turning ten. Kate is also set to compete against other contestants on the upcoming season of “Celebrity Apprentice.”
