Dear White People has become a theatrical hit at the box office. This past weekend, it grossed $103,750. Following the theme of race relations, the producers of the film created a commercial parody where people can buy “racism insurance.”
In the short-film, two co-workers are seen talking to one another. The White co-worker offended his Black co-worker by trying to say he was surprised he was not like other Black people. As their conversation becomes increasingly awkward, the White co-worker calls upon his Black racism insurance representative.
Although the concept is not real, can you imagine a world where you or your White friends can use racism insurance to get out of awkward conversations?
