Former American Idol Contestant & Plus Size Model Joanne Borgella Dies From Rare Case of Cancer
Former “American Idol” contestant and plus size model Joanne Borgella has passed away from a rare form of cancer at the tender age of 32.
Not only did Joanne Borgella make it to the top 12 girls category on Season 7 of American Idol but she also appeared in “Mo’Nique’s Fat Chance”. Borgella was the first winner of the beauty pageant. The Wilhelmina Agency model also appeared on MTV’s “Made” and NUVOtv’s “Curvy Girls”.
Borgella first shared that she had a rare form a cancer in October 2013. Her family later revealed it was endometrial cancer and developed in her uterus. Joanne updated her fans two months ago, sharing that the cancer had spread to her chest and she would be undergoing two rounds of radiation to fight it.
Joanne’s family confirmed the news on Saturday via her Facebook. The family stated,
“On Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 5:45AM, Joanne Borgella Ramirez was called by the Lord to heaven.
At an early age, Joanne made a choice to serve and trust the Lord; and since her diagnosis over a year ago, Joanne made a choice to also be a fighter and share her journey with the world. Her faith, courage and strength were unshaken throughout every obstacle she encountered. Although our family is suffering with this great loss, we find comfort in the closeness Joanne shared with the Lord. We know her spirit still shines and will continue to live on in heaven.”
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
