New Full-Length Trailer For Lifetime’s “Aaliyah: The Princess Of R&B” Finally Reveals Their R. Kelly
I know what you’re thinking: How many Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B trailers are there going to be!?
I know because I was thinking the same thing, however, this one is probably the most informative out of all of them. In it, we finally get to hear Alexandra Shipp talk and be in full character as Aaliyah (before we just saw her dancing around). We get to see her portray Aaliyah in the early days of Age Ain’t Nothing But A Number and up until her death.
And one big part of her life that will be put in focus for the Lifetime movie is her relationships, including her high-profile relationship with Damon Dash and of course, her controversial short-lived marriage to R. Kelly. This trailer finally gives us a glimpse into the guy playing Kelly (we see him in the studio and walking with Shipp), though it’s still unclear who the actor is. On the film’s IMBb page, it says that Jackie Long (of ATL fame) is set to play Kellz, but the guy who is portraying him in the trailer does NOT look like Long. Whoever it is, covering that relationship could definitely go left. But in an interview with the Orlando Sentinel, Wendy Williams, whose production company is helping to bring the movie to light, says nothing will be “distasteful.”
“We let you know what happened with Aaliyah and R. Kelly. Nothing is distasteful. You don’t want to be distasteful, but you need to tell a story.”
Again, Lifetime’s Aaliyah movie premieres on November 15 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Check out the new trailer below, as well as a clip of the real Aaliyah in a past interview and let us know if Shipp pulls this role off.
