Phaedra On Ellen: I Was Too Busy Overachieving To Know Apollo Was Breaking The Law

October 15, 2014  |

Today Phaedra is going to be on Ellen and all anyone really wants to know is whether she’s really divorcing Apollo and if she had any idea her husband was breaking the law – again. Well, hunny, the preview clips that have surfaced online show Miss Parks said a mouthful on both subjects, especially when it comes to her not having any clue Apollo was committing fraud for a second time. Phaedra told Ellen:

“I work, I just got my fifth college degree — I’m pretty much an overachiever. I have two very small children. I just stopped breastfeeding three months ago. So, I didn’t have any idea this was going on until he called me and he said ‘I’ve been arrested and I’m having this problem, but it’s not true.'”

Sorry if this sounds crass but if this is true — and that’s a strong if — doesn’t sound like Phaedra was much of a successful wife to not know of her husbands whereabouts and shady dealings. And for the life of me I still don’t understand how she wouldn’t question how a man with no job always had money. But I digress.

Despite Apollo leaving his wife and sons in a very tight spot when the allegations of fraud surfaced, Phaedra insists the last thing she wanted was for her husband to go to jail.

“I went out of my way to get him the best attorneys, the best investigators, and to do everything I could,” Phaedra told Ellen. “I’m an attorney myself and so I wanted him to have the best so we could fight this together, but obviously it did not turn out like that.”

As we all know, Apollo just began his eight-year sentence, which just so happens to be his second stint in federal prison. Apollo was actually on parole from his first fraud case when he met Phaedra who claims she gave her husband of five years a chance because she thought he’d put that life behind him. Ellen, however, questioned why that wasn’t a red flag.

“[H]e had been to prison, but he was a changed person,” Phaedra said. “[T]he person I married, I thought he had changed.”

Now the person who’s changing is Phaedra who let it be known that going forth she’ll be raising her sons, 4-year-old Ayden and 17-month-old Dylan, alone — a decision that wasn’t easy for her to make.

“It is extremely hard. My heart aches for my two sons. They are the heart and soul of who I am.

“That’s the best thing we ever did together – we have great kids. I never want to do anything to diminish his character in public. We’ve had some times when he’s done things that weren’t so cool, weren’t so nice.”

At least she’s taking the high road on that front. Check out a clip of the interview which airs today below. What do you think?
