Ratings Flop! Jay Z & Beyoncé’s HBO ‘On The Run’ Special Had Less Than A Million Viewers
While Jay Z and Beyoncé’s On The Run tour special on HBO got great reviews, it failed to pull in the viewers when it finally aired on September 23rd. Had there been too much hype surrounding the broadcast? Are people burnt out over anything Jay and Bey?
Whatever the reason, reruns of The Big Bang Theory actually beat out the powerhouse couple in ratings, reports Perez Hilton. The special had less than a million viewers. To be exact, On The Run had 880,000 viewers. Meanwhile. BBT repeats captured 2,790,000 million views.
The HBO special, featuring 40 songs, was taped during the couple’s Stade de France stop on September 12 and 13. These performances in France were the tour’s only international stops.
Although the airing didn’t grab viewers’ attention, there were two takeaways that had everyone talking. There were never before seen images of a topless and pregnant Beyonce with hubby Jay Z holding her. Then there is the beyond cute footage of Jay Z doing pushups with baby Blue Ivy.
We wonder if the poor showing will put a damper on the couple’s longstanding relationship with HBO. Beyoncé appeared on HBO in Beyoncé: X10, a ten-episode series of concert performances from her “Mrs. Carter” tour. She also aired her up-close-and-personal feature-length documentary Life Is But a Dream on the cable network in February 2013. And Jay Z premiered his video “Picasso Baby: A Performance Art Film” there last August.
But with all this post-broadcast buzz about On The Run, maybe a rerun of the special may be a ratings success.
