Locked Up: Shocking Reality Star Arrests
These reality stars may be living it up on television but they’ve also spent time in some not so nice digs behind bars, too.
For several seasons, Phaedra Parks and Apollo Nida were a young couple in love raising two small children on “Real Housewives of Atlanta.” But when the new season starts up, Nida will be noticeably absent. That’s because he’s serving eight years behind bars after he was accused of stealing more than $2 million from over 50 victims and pleaded guilty to mail, wire and bank fraud charges. Considering Apollo was locked up for the same M.O. before we shouldn’t be all that surprised.
The producers of “Real Housewives of Atlanta” brought Marlo Hampton in as a recurring castmate to spice up season four. But before the season even aired, Hampton’s past was revealed. It turns out she was arrested on seven different occasions over the span of four years. The first arrest came in 1999 after she was involved in a knife fight that left the other woman disfigured. That resulted in a first-degree felony charge. She was also busted for parole violation, possession of a firearm and passing a fake check.
From the start, NeNe Leakes was the breakout star on the “Real Housewives of Atlanta.” Her over the top personality helped her find work on television outside of the reality show but it took a long time for her criminal background come to light. A 25-year-old Leakes was charged with one misdemeanor and three felony counts of theft of services for ripping off her phone company. Pleading guilty to all four counts, Leakes received three years’ probation and was ordered to repay $2,650. The future reality star was also busted on several probation violations over the next few years.
Apollo Nida and NeNe Leakes aren’t the only “Real Housewives of Atlanta” castmates that have a criminal record. Long before she was on “Real Housewives of Atlanta,” Sheree Whitfield was known at an Ohio Saks Fifth Avenue for the wrong reasons: She was busted twice for stealing out of the store. The former reality star was sentenced to three years’ probation and banned from shopping at that Saks. Whitfield was also arrested after a hit and run accident but that charge was later expunged from her record.
Joe and Teresa Giudice
Before she appeared on the reality show “Real Housewives of New Jersey,” Teresa Giudice lived a lavish and opulent lifestyle. Her husband Joe ran a seemingly successful real estate business and their spending habits got worse after Teresa became a breakout star on the show. But as it turns out, that lavish and opulent lifestyle was funded by illegal means. Last year the couple was charged with 39 counts that included falsifying bank statements on loan applications and bank, mail, wire and bankruptcy fraud. They both pleaded guilty back in March and will be sentenced on October 2nd. Teresa faces a 21 to 27 month prison sentence while Joe faces a bit longer time of 37 to 46 months in prison under federal sentencing guidelines
Toni Braxton has been in the spotlight ever since she emerged in the music industry back in the early 90’s. But we were introduced to her four sisters and mother through their popular reality show “Braxton Family Values.” While each of them has their own personalities, Trina Braxton has been labeled as the party girl because she never met an alcoholic drink she didn’t like. She was busted for DUI and during the second season of the show, the other sisters staged an intervention with the help of their therapist. Trina was sentenced to community service.
Trina Braxton wasn’t the only one on “Braxton Family Values” that had to ride in the back of a police wagon. Surprisingly, their mother was arrested too! Ms. Evelyn Braxton was hauled off for possession of a taser gun. The matriarch started carrying a stun gun after she was having problems with a stalker. However, Ms. Braxton didn’t realize that it was illegal in New York to have such a weapon and it was found in her bag while she was going through security at an airport in the Big Apple. She was booked and released on her own recognizance the following day.
Chrissy Lampkin got her first taste of fame as one of the original cast members of “Love & Hip Hop” before leaving after the second season for her own show. But before she left, we saw the future Mrs. Jones stomp a fellow cast member out. And late last year when the cameras weren’t rolling, Lampkin was at it again. She got into a fight with another woman inside of a New Jersey club and she beat her so bad, the woman was hospitalized and a laceration on her face required stitches. Lampkin was arrested for aggravated assault and disorderly conduct. Her boo Jim Jones bailed her out.
Chrissy Lampkin isn’t the only “Love & Hip Hop” star that was been in the silver bracelets. Yandy Smith has been on the show since the first season and her fiancé Mendeecees Harris made some appearances as well. But in the last season of the show, Harris was M.I.A. That’s because he was locked up in federal custody on charges of drug trafficking. Cameras followed Smith as she struggled to raise their young son alone while anticipating his release on bail. After the season wrapped up, Harris was finally released on $200,000 bail over a year later.
Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi
Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi made a name for herself fist-pumping up and down the Jersey coast as part of MTV’s “Jersey Shore” and proved to be the breakout star on the show. But in 2010, the reality star took things a bit too far when she returned for another season of filming. Enjoying the fun and the sun, Snooki ended up getting drunk before lunchtime and it went from bad to worse when she got out in the sun and continued to drink. The pint-sized star was eventually arrested in Seaside Heights for disorderly conduct.
Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino
Unfortunately, Snooki isn’t the only “Jersey Shore” star that has been led away in handcuffs. Back in June, Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino got into a physical altercation with his brother at the tanning salon they co-own. The police were called and The Situation was arrested for simple assault. He was released on $500 bail and was sporting a bruise under his eye.
Kim Kardashian helped her family become the biggest thing on reality television but before sister Khloe was in front of the E! cameras, she was posing for a mugshot. The “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” star was arrested back in 2007 for DUI. Almost a year and a half later, she turned herself in for parole violation. Khloe was facing up to 30 days in prison but she was in and out within three hours due to overcrowding in the L.A. jails.
Jenelle Evans’ claim to fame has been starring on “Teen Mom.” And her multiple arrest record. Legal trouble for Evans started in late 2010 when she was first arrested for breaking and entering and drug possession. Since then she’s had six more visits to the police station and has been busted on charges of parole violation, assault and harassment. She’s also been booked for possession of heroin with intent to manufacture, sell, and distribute, as well as possession of drug paraphernalia and domestic assault. Her last time in the back of a paddy wagon was late last year for disturbing the peace.
Although some of us knew who she was based on her last name, most people didn’t become familiar with Paris Hilton until after she got her own reality show with her then bff Nicole Richie. But the “Simple Life” star’s life was anything but simple growing up in Beverly Hills. Before cleaning her act up and becoming the businesswoman that she is now, the socialite had a couple brushes with the law. She’s been arrested a couple times for DUI, driving on a suspended license, violation of probation and possession of cocaine.
We know Tameka Raymond as Usher’s ex wife and the mother of his two adorable sons. She currently stars on the reality show “Atlanta Exes” but her arrest record was revealed just as she was about to tie the knot to the “Confessions” singer back in 2007. The “National Enquirer” broke the story and we all found out that Raymond was arrested twice, one for petty theft in 1991 in which she served 20 days in jail. The other time was for welfare fraud and she was ordered to perform community service.
