Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Famous Survivors Who Battled The Disease
It’s estimated that there will be 232,670 new cases of invasive breast cancer diagnosed this year and another 40,000 individuals will succumb to the disease. In honor of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, here are some celebs who have battled the deadly disease and come out victorious.
Each morning on “Good Morning America,” Robin Roberts interviews A-list celebrities and athletes but in 2007 the Tuskegee, Alabama native became an item in the news herself after revealing she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. Roberts found a lump during a self-examination and doctors confirmed that the lump she felt was breast cancer. She underwent treatment, which included eight weeks of chemotherapy followed by radiation. Two years ago, Roberts took another medical absence from work. This time she received a bone marrow transplant from her sister after being diagnosed with MDS, or myelodysplastic syndrome.
