In sad news, Illinois news anchor Dave Benton recently announced on-air that he only has four to six months left to live. Unfortunately, the veteran journalist has been battling brain cancer for some time now and doctors believe that they’ve done all that they can do for him.
“As you know, I told you a few days ago that my brain cancer was back. But I have learned in the last few days, as I have seen doctors several times, I’m learning more about what my future holds. Basically, my cancer is back and it’s too big for surgery and radiation. Doctors have told me that I may have four to six months to live.”
Dave says that he is planning to undergo a new antibody treatment and a chemo treatment to slow down the tumor’s growth, but ultimately, his future now lies in God’s hands.
“As you know, I am a born-again Christian. I believe that I am in God’s hands. I am at peace and I know that he is going to take care of the days ahead and the goal here is to have the best ones possible.”
“It’ll be nine years [at WCIA-TV] in about three weeks, and I’m dedicated to continue good work. I want to know that there’ll be a moment, where I will stop a moment and say, ‘I hope I did good work to our viewers, I served them, I did things well,’ and I want to take an opportunity for that to make sure it happens.”
We certainly admire Dave for his courage. You can keep up with his journey here.
