Is This Seat Taken? Celebrity Wedding Crashers
The day you get married may be the most important day of your life. And what was a special day for some lucky ordinary folk turned into an even more memorable occasion when these celebrity wedding crashers popped up out of nowhere.
Beyonce and Jay Z
After Beyonce wrapped up her successful “On The Run” tour with her hubby Jay Z here in the U.S., the couple took some much needed time off for a little rest and relaxation before gearing up for the European leg of the tour. They have been unwinding in Italy and the “Drunk In Love” singer stumbled upon a wedding after walking into a local church in Portofino. Even though she was severely underdressed with her bikini, sheer wrap and straw hat on, Beyonce happily obliged and took photos with the surprised bride and groom.
For some people, the wedding reception is where the party really begins but for one groom, he kicked things off with some festivities before the wedding. A party bus carrying a groom and his groomsmen to a wedding was turned into a rap show on wheels when rapper DMX got on board. He just happened to be walking by when he hopped on the bus and performed some of his songs for the small group. Dark Man X was accompanied by his bodyguard.
Rapper Snoop Dogg was in the Chicago area a few weeks headlining a music festival in the windy city while Neesha Ghadiali and Joe Scheller had just tied the knot in a traditional Indian ceremony and were snapping wedding photos at the Hard Rock Hotel. When their photographer noticed none other than the Godfather of rap stepping out of his limo Snoop was all too happy to pose for a photo with the bride and groom and then had his own photo snapped and uploaded to his Instagram.
After being the leader of the free world, you can certainly crash a wedding and get away with it. A few years ago, former U.S. President Bill Clinton was staying at a resort in Cork, Ireland when he heard noises from a wedding reception of an Irish-American couple that was going on at the same place. Clinton wandered over and decided to introduce himself to the couple — as if they didn’t already know who he was.
President Barack Obama
Imagine being told on your big day that your wedding may be starting later than planned because of another event booked before your upcoming nuptials. That would certainly upset any bride or groom but when the event beforehand turns out to be a last-minute rally for a campaigning President Obama, you have no other choice but to wait. That’s what happened to an Iowa couple in 2012 but luckily President Obama’s event ended right on time. And he left a surprise wedding gift for the bride and groom (who were not registered Democrats): a silver tray and a mint julep cup, both with the presidential seal, and a handwritten note that read, “Congratulations on the wedding. Michelle and I wish you a great life together. Barack Obama.”
Normally the bride is the center of attention on her wedding day but when Serena Williams shows up in nothing but a bathing suit that will most certainly upstage any wedding gown. Williams, who just won her third consecutive U.S. Open title over the weekend, was hanging out on Miami Beach catching some sun and waves a while ago when she came across a couple getting married in the sand. Clad in a leopard print one-piece bathing suit, Williams posed for photos with guests and later posted photos on her own Instagram with the hashtag #bikiniweddingcrasher.
Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez
Back in 2011 when pop stars Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez were young and in love with each other, they surprised another couple that was madly in love. Hanging out on the beach in Malibu, Bieber heard his song “One Less Lonely Girl” playing at a wedding reception while he and Gomez were going for a stroll. They casually followed the music and walked right into the party.
When LeBron James took his talents to South Beach, his main objective was to bring a championship to the city of Miami. He kept through with his promise and the city loved him for that but he made the day for a Miami couple unforgettable after crashing their wedding. The Miami Heat superstar just so happened to be doing an interview at the Ritz-Carlton in Coconut Grove, the exact same location of their wedding. James was more than happy to pose with the bride and groom and towered over them in the photo.
Last year, Brad Pitt was on location near Buckingshire, England shooting a film and was staying at a hotel nearby. That’s where he ran into Daniel Lingwood, who happened to be getting married that day. He bragged to his soon to be wife that he had met the “World War Z” star at the hotel and she didn’t believe him. Until Pitt showed up to their wedding. He happily posed with Lingwood and his blushing bride.
Usain Bolt may be the fastest man in the world but he certainly stopped and made one happy couple’s day even more exciting. The Jamaican sprinter was in Paris last year when he ran into a bride and groom who had just tied the knot and were taking photos on the square. Bolt eagerly snapped some photos with the Japanese couple who even imitated his signature lightening bolt pose for the camera.
How cool would you be in front of all the other guests if you were able to get a celebrity to attend a friend’s wedding? Well, if Conan O’Brien is in the area, try hitting him up on twitter and he may show up. That’s what happened when a twitter follower invited the late night talk show host to a wedding in Atlanta in 2013 and O’Brien replied and joked that he would be there. But it was no joke when the tall, lanky redhead showed up later at the reception and took photos with the guests.
If you ran into an A-list celebrity the day before you got married and you invited him or her to your wedding, do you think they’ll show up? If he’s John Travolta, he would. The “Pulp Fiction” star had met a couple last year in Georgia and they invited him to their nuptials and to their surprise he actually showed up. Travolta, who was dressed in a black t-shirt and jeans, posed for photos with the happy couple and they excused him for his casual attire.
In HBO’s “Entourage,” Adrian Grenier played a rising actor who was learning and dealing with the ins and outs of Hollywood while juggling the fame. His character Vincent Chase was the type of person that would totally stop and crash a wedding and that is just what Grenier did back in 2006. While leaving the spa of the Ritz-Carlton in Marina del Rey, the heartthrob accidentally walked into the wedding and decided to stay and take some photos with the pleasantly surprised guests.
