Ava Duvernay

Ava Duvernay started her career out in the field of marketing. Creating her own agency, Duvernay has promoted over 100 films and television projects and, ready to make the switch to a filmmaker, the California native made her directorial feature debut with the documentary “This Is The Life.” She followed that up with several independent films including “Middle of Nowhere,” which helped her win the Best Director Award at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival. Last year Rhimes tapped Duvernay to direct an episode of “Scandal” titled “Vermont is For Lovers Too,” which found Olivia Pope and her team trying to uncover the truth behind Operation Remington while also managing a potential crisis with the Josie Marcus campaign.
