Nigerian Musician Femi Kuti Talks About His Father, Fela Kuti, His Legacy And The New Doc, “Finding Fela”

September 3, 2014  |

We had quite the honor of speaking with musician Femi Kuti, son of legendary Afrobeat musician Fela Kuti, and an accomplished musical tour de force in his own right. Alongside producer Stephen Hendel, the men chatted with us about the new documentary Finding Fela, which puts a spotlight not only on the life of Fela Kuti in a way that other docs about him have not, but the successful Broadway show done about Kuti’s life in New York from 2008 to 2012. We’ve already lauded the film for delivering footage many Fela fans have never seen, and also being entertaining for someone just being introduced to the Afrobeat pioneer’s work. But I’ll let Kuti and Hendel explain why it’s such a great film, and why it was so important for it to be made.

If you wish to see it, check here for dates for when it’s arriving in your city!
