“A Different World”

After finding success as a comedian then a television and film star, Bill Cosby decided to create a show centered around an upper-middle class Black family and “The Cosby Show” helped him become one of television’s favorite dads. A few years after the show first aired, Cosby created “A Different World” as a vehicle for his television daughter Denise Huxtable (Lisa Bonet) and her stay at the all-Black school Hillman College. After Bonet left, the show shifted its focus to other characters and was known for its depiction on race and class issues as well as openly discussing AIDS, date rape and affirmative action.
