Credit card debt increased this year.  “In April alone, the balances on Americans’ credit cards increased ‘at the fastest pace in almost 13 years’,” reports The New York Times.

And some of this activity is likely impulse purchasing. How many times have you bought an item you didn’t need but just wanted? Just because?

“The fact of the matter is that your unconscious mind is often driving your behavior as a consumer: under the influence of basic evolutionary drives and the tactics of retailers, it’s easy to feel compelled to buy something that later doesn’t find a place in your life,” reports Psychology Today.

So instead of spending money on things you don’t need here are nine other things you can do — and be happy doing them.
