DM Me: Celebrity Couples Who Met On Social Media
It used to be that you were warned about the dangers of meeting strangers online but nowadays it’s not just regular folk that are using social media to find a mate. These stars found love or lust on Twitter and Facebook.
Big Sean and Naya Rivera
Big Sean was with his high school sweetheart since he was 16 years old but after finding fortune and fame, their love deteriorated. Early last year, the Detroit rapper used twitter to meet his next paramour. The “Marvin Gaye & Chardonnay” rapper first hollered at Naya Rivera on twitter. The two quickly moved their relationship offline and into the real world. After dating for more than six months, Big Sean popped the question and the happy couple became engaged. But earlier this year, the wedding was called off. Several months later the “Glee” star married an old friend.
Evelyn Lozada and Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson
Evelyn Lozada’s fiery temper helped her stand out from the rest of the “Basketball Wives” but football player Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson wasn’t deterred by her attitude. In fact, the former Cincinnati Bengals star was so intrigued by what he saw on television that he contacted Lozada via twitter. The two were soon flirting with each other online and in no time they were love. Lozada and Johnson rushed down the aisle to holy matrimony but just a month after their fairytale wedding in St. Maarten, Lozada found incriminating evidence that her new husband was unfaithful already. Johnson headbutted the reality show star and she promptly filed for divorce. Even though he used twitter to show how much he wanted his wife back, things were over for good once Lozada became pregnant by baseball star Carl Crawford.
Iggy Azalea and Nick Young
NBA baller Nick Young made the first move when he selected Iggy Azalea as his #WCW (women crush Wednesday) and the Australian rapper promptly returned the favor. They soon took their crushes for each other off of twitter and to the next level. The pair began dating late last year. This past March Azalea and her Los Angeles Lakers boo were featured together in a “GQ” magazine spread.
Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose
Amber Rose was plucked out of obscurity when Kanye West laid eyes on her and knew he had to have her. She traveled the world as his arm piece but after they broke up she started a friendship with rapper Wiz Khalifa on twitter. After deciding to take their digital friendship offline, the “Black & Yellow” rapper took the bald-headed beauty on their first date to a burger joint. The move apparently won Rose over. The two are now married and are the parents to one son.
Rita Ora and Calvin Harris
Sometimes it ends just like how it starts. Rita Ora got into a war of words with Scottish DJ Calvin Harris via twitter but instead of turning into enemies, the pair became lovers. The two started dating and were happily involved with each other for nine months before calling it quits. The couple blamed their busy schedules and the effect it had on their long-distance relationship. Harris took to twitter to announce that although the British songstress was a beautiful person, the two had went their separate ways. This caught Ora off-guard and she was forced to go on twitter to make an announcement of her own that they had in fact split up.
Juelz Santana and Kimbella
Rapper Juelz Santana met his future baby mama Kimbella on twitter. The couple has two children together and was featured on one season on “Love & Hip Hop.” While they weren’t the stars of the show, viewers will no doubt remember the infamous fight between Kimbella and Jim Jones’ longtime girlfriend Chrissy Lampkin. Recently, the “There It Go” rapper made headlines after chastising Kimbella for posting photos on Instagram that prominently showcased her cakes.
Tahiry Jose and JR Smith
Since he signed with the New York Knicks, JR Smith saw his profile rise. Helping the famed Knicks return to the playoffs once more, Smith won the Sixth Man of the Year award and was all over the media. He was also all over twitter because not only did he use the social media platform to meet Tahiry Jose, he also used it to showcase their relationship. Smith tweeted a photo of Joe Budden’s ex laying in bed wearing a thong and it irked the Slaughterhouse rapper enough to have the two embroiled in a twitter beef for all of their followers to see.
K. Michelle and JR Smith
Moving on quickly from Tahiry, JR Smith once again turned to twitter for help in snagging another lady. Smith got close with R&B singer K. Michelle after first introducing himself to her on twitter. The two were soon spotted at clubs together and photos of the two coupled up together soon started to circulate online. But looking to distance himself from the “Can’t Raise A Man” singer, the Knicks player once again took to twitter to announce that they were not a couple and he was once again a single man.
Keyshia Cole and Daniel “Boobie” Gibson
NBA baller Daniel “Boobie” Gibson saw Keyshia Cole on television and he knew he wanted to be with her. So what did he do? The Cleveland Cavaliers player first caught Cole’s attention using twitter. In no time, he swept the R&B singer off of her feet. He asked the “I Changed My Mind” singer to marry him at the top of 2010 and that same year she gave birth to their son. Gibson and Cole married the following year and then renewed their vows a few months later but trouble eventually visited paradise. Cole confirmed that the two split up earlier this year after reports surfaced of trouble in their marriage.
Jennette McCurdy and Andre Drummond
Taking a page from Nick Young’s book fellow NBA baller Andre Drummond decided the best way to get Jennette McCurdy’s attention was to make her his #WCW. The plan worked because the two began talking on twitter before taking their relationship offline and into the real world. But it wasn’t true love for the Nickelodeon star. According to her, their short-lived relationship barely lasted a week and she admitted that she only agreed to date him because he was so persistent on twitter but she was turned off by their first kiss.
K. Michelle and Lance Stephenson
K. Michelle may have a thing for basketball players and twitter. The former “Love & Hip Hop Atlanta” star met Indiana Pacer Lance Stephenson via twitter and the two hit it off. But dating a younger man who plays professional basketball isn’t what it’s cracked up to be. K. Michelle opened up about why she and 23-year-old Stephenson split up. “I know I’m a lot,” she said. “And to ask a 23-year-old to understand this job too…and being 23, trying to date somebody you never dated… an artist or things like that. Then you’re in the NBA and you want to sling d*ck and be 23 and… I’m not having it. So, he needs to go be 23 and sling pen*s.”
Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi and Emilio Masella
Before she settled down and became a mother of two, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi was a fist-pumping, club hopping party girl that danced her way up and down the Jersey Shore. The reality show star first met her boyfriend Emilio Masella on Facebook. They broke up in 2010 just as her career as a reality star was really starting to take off over allegations that he cheated on her. When he found out she was pregnant by boyfriend Jionni LaValle a couple years later, Masella’s bitter feelings got the best of him when he wished for his ex to have a miscarriage.
