High-Profile Celebrity Hook-Ups And Break Ups That Taught Us To Keep Our Relationships Private
On Instagram’s #ManCrushMonday or #WomanCrushWednesday, there’s no feeling greater for some than to be able to show off a new boo! However, things get a little sticky when “bae” decides to call it quits after your very public deceleration of love.
In Hollywood, famous women are often spilling all the details about the new man they’re head-over-heels for, but ended up regretting it when their high-profile relationships ended. Here are a few examples of couples who called it quits after speaking publicly about their feelings for one another.
Ciara and Future
Just a few short months after the birth of their son Future Zahir, and as they were supposed to be preparing for a wedding, the couple called it quits. Both Ciara and Future have spent some time refuting certain rumors via social media, but neither party has confirmed or denied the break-up details. But the good news is (if you choose to look at it that way), the couple have reportedly reunited and want to make it work for their son. We hope they can, but they might want to make it work in private…
K. Michelle and Lance Stephenson
When K. Michelle is in love, the whole world will know it. But if you do her wrong, well, the whole world will know about that too. The songstress wasn’t the least bit shy in letting us know when it was over for her and former Indiana Pacer baller, Lance Stephenson. After months of publicly dating (he was all in her Instagram pics) she tweeted the following: “I’m single. I’ll explain later. I have to do what’s best for me … If it doesn’t make you smile, know when to walk away. There’s only so much a heart can take. No one deserves to be lied to and cheated on.” On to the next one!
Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon
Their separation may have come as just as much a surprise as their initial union, but we’ve got to admit we’d hate to see this one end. If their extravagant wedding and vow renewal ceremonies weren’t enough, the tattoos with each other’s names and numerous music video collaborations were there to convince us that Nick and Mariah would be together forever. However, forever isn’t looking too good right now.
Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries
Kim Kardashian has certainly left her mark in pop culture history in more ways than one. After marrying NBA player Kris Humphries in an extravagant E! special, Kim filed for divorce a mere 72 days after they said “I do.” As surprising (or not) as it was, you have to admit that #ThingsLongerThanKimsMarriage was (and still is) a pretty funny Trending Topic. The good news is that her marriage to Kanye West has already surpassed those 72 days.
Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey
With their fairytale wedding, the union of Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey was truly a beautiful thing. Not only were we with the couple as they released duets like “This I Swear” and “Where You Are,” but we watched their popular reality show “Newlyweds” on MTV. As much as we enjoyed watching their adventures together (chicken by the sea anyone?), the marriage came to a halt when Simpson filed for divorce in 2005. Well, it was fun while it lasted.
Tae Heckard And Brandon Jennings
They defended their relationship after Jennings’ former love, Teyana Taylor, went on the radio and called him out for dissing their relationship in order to brag about his new love, who was Taylor’s former friend (or at least associate…)! But they kept it moving with their engagement and seemed happy. However, things started falling apart when it came out that Heckard was still legally married to a woman, and though he didn’t explain his reasoning, Jennings made it clear this past weekend that he and Heckard are done.
Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt
We shouldn’t even have to say much about this breakup. Although Bradgelina may set many of our hearts on fire, it really must suck to think about the “should have” “could have” and “would have” of Bennifer.
Heidi Klum and Seal
The couple, who were red carpet fixtures during their 7-year marriage ended things in 2012. Despite the divorce, the couple still meet up occasionally to spend quality time with their children together.
Shad Moss and All Of His Exes
Although he seems to be cool with the two women since their break ups, Moss always takes things to the next level with his commentary on the type of lovers they were. Shad, also known as Bow Wow, exposed too much during these relationships, and too much afterwards as well.
Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren
Tiger Woods was always a household name, but in 2010 things took a sour turn when he made headlines regarding a massive cheating scandal. His then wife, Elin Nordegren, who was always by his side at his golfing competitions, didn’t take too kindly to the news (after an investigation of her own) and opened up a can of woop a**. Yikes!
Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake
The couple who wears denim on denim together, stays together. Or so we hoped. Another relationship of ’90s pop star glory that unfortunately didn’t last long is that of Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake. They were seen everywhere together, and they knew each other since their days on the Mickey Mouse Club as kids. But sadly, after three years together, things went sour between the couple.
Elle Varner and Iman Shumpert
In early 2013, our girl Elle Varner worked hard to conceal her relationship with NBA player Iman Shumpert, but after months of keeping it on the low, she decided to make things very public by way of social media. However, it’s a move she would soon regret when the couple called it quits later that year. She announced the breakup via Twitter saying the following: “I’m single….please don’t ask me a million questions I won’t answer any of them. no drama here just peace and love.”
Nicole Murphy and Michael Strahan
August 1st was a day of celebration and sadness for Michael Strahan. After being inducted into the Football Hall of Fame, his split from fiancée of five years, Nicole Murphy, was announced. The couple always seemed happy and head-over-heels when they hit red carpets and events, but the distance put a massive damper on their love.
Usher and Tameka Raymond
“My wife is not 40 years old. I love her to death and I’m a black, strong man in America standing up for my people!” That’s what Usher yelled to the world during his very public rant on TRL where he defended his marriage to stylist, Tameka Foster. The R&B singer caught a lot of flack from his fans but didn’t let that stop him from saying “I do” in 2007. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out the way in which he had hoped and the couple divorced in 2009. Tameka recently opened up the details of the divorce via her role on the new VH1 reality show, “Atlanta Exes.”
