These VMA rehearsals are having some serious bad luck. Nicki Minaj may have broken records this week with the release of her video for “Anaconda”, but apparently a snake was busy breaking her backup dancer’s skin during a rehearsal for the MTV VMA performance of the single.
According to MTV News, a six-foot long snake bit the dancer during the Friday afternoon rehearsal. Nicki was on-stage during the incident, but wasn’t harmed. Viacom Media Networks production safety director, Chris Velvin confirmed that an on-site medic as present the whole time and the dancer was treated immediately. She was taken to a hospital afterwards as a further precaution but her condition is said to be “non life-threatening”.
Rocky, a boa constrictor who has been in the business for 15 years is the culprit responsible for biting the dancer inside her left arm. The non-venomous snake was draped around her shoulders before biting her. When the music stopped after the incident, a concerned Nicki Minaj questioned, “Did she get bit by the snake?” She then stopped what she was doing to make sure the dancer was OK.
Rocky is said to have never bitten someone on the job before.
Let me find out Nicki is trying to give us some throwback Britney Spears action at this year’s MTV VMA’s. I see Nicki’s no fool, and had that snake draped around someone else’s shoulders. We’re glad her dancer’s OK and it appears Rocky’s been canned and Nicki’s team plans to use another snake for the performance.
