It’s A Family Thing: Philanthropic Couple, Alonzo & Tracy Mourning
Alonzo and Tracy Mourning do lots of community outreach through their well-established Mourning Family Foundation.
The philanthropic husband and wife have raised $7 million for programs serving youth and families, most notably in Miami-Dade county, reports BlackGivesBack. Under the umbrella of the foundation, are other charitable arms. For example, Alonzo is the primary funder for Overtown Youth Center, an afterschool center that offers education, enrichment and recreation activities. Tracy is founder of Honey Shine Mentoring Program, which gives support and mentoring to Miami-area girls.
Because of all the giving back the two do, the pair even had a high school named after them–The Alonzo and Tracy Mourning Sr. High Biscayne Bay Campus. It is a comprehensive high school with 1,654 students.
