A 24-year-old man from Tampa has been arrested and charged with first degree murder and aggravated child abuse in the death of his girlfriend’s 1-year-old son. According to an NBC affiliate in Tampa, it was all because the child urinated on himself.
According to reports, 24-year-old Austin Hamilton was watching his girlfriend’s 1-year-old son, Sincere Williams, and her other 6-year-old son while she went to work on Saturday. Hamilton was watching the kids at a Motel 6 when he claimed that he noticed Williams having trouble breathing. He called the ambulance, and they came to retrieve the baby, who was found unresponsive on a bed in the hotel room. After being taken to a nearby hospital, Williams died.
When police questioned Hamilton about what could have caused the child to struggle to breath, he claimed that he didn’t hurt the child or do anything at all that would have caused the boy to die. But as always, the autopsy report told a very different story.
According to the NBC affiliate, in the Medical Examiner’s Report, which was sent to detectives on Sunday, Williams’ death was ruled a homicide. The 1-year-old reportedly died as a result of sustaining blunt force trauma to his lower abdomen.
Detectives found Hamilton and questioned him once again about what happened to the child, and this time, he admitted that “he lost control,” becoming frustrated after the boy urinated while Hamilton was trying to change his diaper. That’s all it took.
The 24-year-old man admitted to hitting the boy several times with a leather belt according to the police report. During this violent form of discipline, Hamilton tried to quickly pick the child up, but the child “fell.”
Though the investigation still continues, after Hamilton’s admission, and based on evidence retrieved in the motel, he was arrested and charged. The girlfriend’s 6-year-old son was not hurt while in Hamilton’s care.
