In general, if someone is a celebrity they are a risk taker—they’ve shown up to thousands of nerve-wracking auditions, worked brutal hours and put their lives in the public eye, and since it takes someone bold to raise a child on their own, we’re not surprised at these celebrities who adopted as single moms.

Sandra Bullock

Bullock didn’t let her unfaithful husband stand in her way of having a family. Bullock began the adoption process to adopt a baby boy while still with her husband Jesse James, but she finalized the process as a single mother.

Angelina Jolie

Now Jolie has the help of Brad Pitt to raise her brood, but she adopted her first son, Maddox, during her final days with Billy Bob Thornton, and took full custody of him after their split. Then she went on to adopt a second child as a fully single woman.

Calista Flockhart

When Harrison Ford began seeing Flockhart, she was already a single mother. She adopted a baby boy named Liam in 2001.

Mary-Louise Parker

The star of “Weeds” is another single mother who decided to get a child after ditching a husband. After parting ways with Billy Crudup, she adopted a baby girl from Africa.

Meg Ryan

Ryan joins the roster of divorcee adoptive parents. After divorcing Dennis Quaid, Ryan adopted a baby from China.

Connie Britton
