Mom Admits To Suffocating Baby Because She ‘Didn’t Want’ To Be A Mother Anymore: ‘I Reached My Breaking Point’
The young mother accused of suffocating her 11-month-old son appeared in court today and has been charged with second-degree murder, the New York Daily News reports. On Sunday, 22-year-old Nicole Kelly told police that the day before her birthday, she decided to end her son, Kiam Felix Jr.’s life because she could no longer handle being a mother.
“I reached my breaking point,” she told detectives. “I didn’t want him anymore.”
The troubled young woman confessed to putting the infant to bed for an afternoon nap and watching as he struggled to breathe. She went on to say that she returned to the room about a half hour later and the boy was blue and unresponsive, but she didn’t try to save him. The child was later taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where he was pronounced dead. If convicted, Nicole faces 25 years in prison.
Hopefully this young woman will receive the help that she so obviously needs. We send our prayers to the families impacted by this tragedy.
