There’s no shortage of commentary on the crabs in a barrel mentality that sometimes overcomes Black women in Hollywood. Gabrielle Union owned up to it during a special on Oprah’s OWN network and we’ve written enough stories on backhanded comments exchanged between actresses to know it’s still very much a problem. But do Black men experience the same level of catty competition?
We asked that question to Lance Gross and Terrence J as they sat with Will Packer after Verizon’s Power Panel during Essence Festival this past weekend and they gave us a hopeful answer about the direction of Black Hollywood as a whole. The men who are clearly great friends in real life also talked about their partnership with the telecommunications company and, of course, clowned each other a bit over how they use Verizon’s technology — like taking one too many selfies from time to time. Check out the interview in the video above and tell us what you think. Would you say Black men in Hollywood are less competitive than Black women?
