We recently reported that Richard Pryor’s children were not on board for Nick Cannon playing the late comedian in the Lee Daniels backed bio-pic. Well it looks like Pryor’s widow isn’t on board either and in fact has a better candidate.
Although Richard Jr. and Rain think Marlon Wayans would be a good fit to play their father known for his raunchy stand up, TMZ is reporting his widow, Jennifer Pryor, thinks Terrence Howard is a great fit for the role which Daniels is still hosting auditions for. She believes he’s an intense, brilliant actor who has the chops for acting and comedy, but admits he’ll need to lose some weight if he snags the part.
Jennifer says a few other names including Jay Pharoah and Mike Epps are being tossed around as well. Although as his widow, Pryor has some say in the project, Richard Jr. and Rain have accused her of making it into a vanity project.
I don’t know, I think the whole family is a little off with this one and I‘d love to see a less familiar face get the part like an Affion Crockett or Brandon T. Jackson. And since when did everyone in these deceased celeb’s families become casting experts? I get that the family would probably know that person’s personality best, but making a movie is a whole lot more than capturing that person’s personality. There’s work ethic and actual talent to be considered too.
Either way, I have the feeling Hollywood is about to overdose the public on biopics before they even hit the big screen.
Why do you think studios are going biopic crazy?
