Boyfriend Of Missing Charlotte Woman Whose Son Says She May Have Been Murdered Arrested For Fleeing The State
Last month we told you about Bianca Tanner, a mother and teacher who went missing. If you’ll recall, the 31-year-old went missing on June 7 after having an argument with her boyfriend. According to said boyfriend, Angelo Smith, an intoxicated Tanner left their shared Charlotte home after they fought over a text message, and he reported her missing on the 8th. But according to her 3-year-old son, Tanner was violently abused by Smith before she disappeared, leading the authorities to also consider this a possible homicide case. The child told police the following:
“Mommy got a spanking with a belt.”
“Angelo kicked mommy’s butt and made her cry.”
“Angelo is mean to mommy and hurt mommy in the face.”
The family of Tanner was also becoming suspicious of Smith as the days went on without word from her. They claimed that he had become hard to reach and stopped answering police questions when it came to the whereabouts of Tanner, despite saying that he had nothing to do with her disappearance. And as police continued their investigation, including searching Tanner and Smith’s shared home, Smith fled the state, traveling to Illinois, and leaving Tanner’s 3-year-old son by himself in their home.
Smith was arrested on Thursday in Glenwood, Illinois at his uncle’s home and charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He was extradited back to Charlotte and is being held on a $100,000 bond. Chief Rodney Moore of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg police told WFMY News that “Anytime you would, you know leave a 3-year-old unattended for any amount of time, that could be considered neglect and abuse.”
Smith’s attorney says that his client left Charlotte because he was being threatened (it’s unclear who was threatening him) and wanted to be near family. But it’s believed by some that 30-year-old Smith left (and left without Tanner’s son) because he did have something to do with her disappearance. Especially since he had a past outstanding warrant for trying to smother an ex-girlfriend during a fight in Arkansas. The police have officially named Smith a “person of interest” in Tanner’s disappearance.
The family of Bianca Tanner are continuing their search for their loved one, including making a Facebook page called Find Missing Bianca Tanner, and they were able to speak with Smith briefly when he was brought back to Charlotte. Tanner’s sister, Cerise Richardson, said the talk was “overwhelming,” but didn’t provide them with the answers they were looking for.
