USA Today is reporting that our favorite unofficial “Sugarbaker” has passed away. Actor Meshach Taylor, famous for his role as “Anthony Bouvier” on the hit sitcom Designing Women died Saturday night at the age of 67.

At the time of his passing, Taylor was in hospice care at his family’s home in Altadena. He was surrounded by his wife, mother and children when he died at 10:47 pm according to his son Tariq Taylor. The family says he was suffering from a long battle with cancer and had faded a great deal in his last days.

The family announced in a Facebook post on June 27:

“It is with love and gratitude that we sorrowfully announce that our darling, amazingly brilliant and dynamic, Meshach, the incredible father, husband, son and friend has begun his grand transition. Our friends who know and love us, please offer your prayers for his peace and blazing light as he ascends to the heavens. Those who need to call the family please do. Those who desire to post memories, we are open and graciously accepting all gestures of peace. Love, the Taylor Family Tariq Taylor, Yasmine Taylor, Tamar Lashae, Taylor Esme Taylor”

Taylor’s line of work includes a number of television and movie appearances including The Drew Carey Show, The Golden Girls, Hannah Montana, Mannequin and Inside Out just to name a few.

Our condolences are with the Taylor family as well as their friends.
