Call Him Shad: Bow Wow Retiring Stage Name In Hopes Of Reviving His Career

June 24, 2014  |

After years of being known as Lil’ Bow Wow, and finally, Bow Wow, the rapper and 106 and Park co-host no longer wants to be called any of that. Bow Weezy says that as of June 29th, he wants to be referred to by his government name, Shad Moss, because it’s time for a change. In an Instagram post, he told his fans and followers that after the BET Awards, he’ll be dropping the stage name that was given to him by Snoop Dogg many years ago, and he thinks a change in moniker will help him take his career to the next level.

“Breaking news, man. After the BET awards, I’m changing my name. I’m cool with my real name. No more Bow Wow, June 29th. Shad Moss is what it is. New era, new money. Let’s go!”

He also posted this message, speaking further on the change, saying Bow Wow doesn’t fit his current lifestyle, as a 27-year-old father, actor, businessman and more.

“ANNOUNCEMENT: After BET awards i will no longer go by Bow Wow! Im going by my real name “Shad Moss” we made alot of history as bow wow. Now its time for the next chapter and challenge. Bow wow does not fit who i am today. Ima father, business man, TV host, Actor, and rapper! Time for MR Moss to take over!”

Yes, he’s pulling a Diddy of sorts. But who can blame him? I doubt many people would want to get anywhere near their 30s still being called “Bow Wow.” But will it help his career? Hey, it probably won’t hurt it. Good luck on this new chapter Bo–I mean, Shad!
