Taraji P. Henson rocks her single mom title loudly and proudly. “Single mother and doin’ the damn thang,” she boasts in her Twitter bio. But losing her son’s father, as to be expected, was a challenging experience.
“When his father passed away, I had only $900 to my name,” the “Think Like A Man Too” actress recently told PageSix.
Thankfully, better days were just around the corner.
“And getting nominated, I blew it all on a pair of Louboutin shoes. I figured I deserved it,” she continued. “Listen, we’re like the Jeffersons. Now a big LA house. To us, it’s a mansion.”
“My career’s good, but I think about my family. It’s just the two of us,” Taraji went on.
Though she and her son, Marcel, are clearly two peas in a pod, her supportive mother, Bernice Gordon, is also an ever-present figure in Emmy-nominated actress’s life.
“There’s also my mama, who was my date at the Oscars. She lives in Florida, and I’ll give her anything she wants. But she doesn’t want anything. She remarried. She found her lucky sucker. So if you ask how’s Mama making it alone, you’re confused. She’s not alone. It’s me who’s alone. I’m always looking.”
Unfortunately, the dating pool in which she can successfully search through has dramatically diminished due to her celeb status.
“Hard to maneuver when you’re in show business. It shrinks the search pool. I don’t want an actor. I want a life partner. A real one. I had a guy, but cut to the chase. He was starstruck. They fall for the lady on-screen.”
The 43-year-old also reiterated her desire to possibly find a man from another country.
“Face it, I don’t wake up looking like Beyoncé. I think I’ll have to start hunting abroad. Maybe get off the Northern Continent. I know you just cannot have two narcissists together.”
As you may recall, Taraji faced backlash a few months ago after some took her comments about seeing men from overseas to heart.
