We’re used to celebrities being impulsive, and doing many permanent things by the age of 25, like getting tattoos, releasing scandalous photos and, of course, getting married. But these stars were a little more patient and waited a bit longer than most to get married. Let this inspire you to keep hope alive! Here are 15 celebrities who married after 40.

Julianna Margulies

The star of “The Good Wife” married at the age of 41 to Keith Lieberthal, eight years her junior. Margulies was already pregnant with Lieberthal’s child when the two wed.

Vince Vaughn

The hilarious star of “Wedding Crashers” apparently wasn’t that interested in weddings during the earlier years in his life. It wasn’t until 2010, when the actor was 40, that he married Kyla Weber.

Cynthia Nixon

The “Sex and the City” star married her partner Christine Marinoni in 2012. Nixon was then 46 years old.

George Takei

The Star Trek star and comedic author married his longtime life partner Brad Altman in 2008. Takei was 71 years old.

Julianne Moore

The elegant “Crazy Stupid Love” actress wasn’t so crazy or stupid about her love life. She waited until she was 43 to marry director Bart Freundlich.

Maria Bello

You might best recognize Bello as the manager of the bar in “Coyote Ugly” but she’s been in several movies including “A History of Violence” and “Secret Window.” Bello married musician Bryn Mooser in 2008, when the actress was 41.

Diane Sawyer

The famous journalist has had intimate conversations with plenty of charming men, but it wasn’t until she was 42 that one of them— German-American director Mike Nichols— charmed her into marriage.

Susie Essman

The “Curb Your Enthusiasm” actress and standup comedian didn’t marry until she was 53 years old to commercial real estate broker Jim Harder.

Salma Hayek

Many men have fantasized about spending their lives with Salma Hayek, but only one made that dream come true. At the age of 42, Hayek married Francois-Henri Pinault, chief executive of a designer conglomerate that owns the likes of Gucci and Bottega Veneta.

Elizabeth Hurley

Hurley famously spent many years with Hugh Grant, but the two never married. It wasn’t until 2007, when Hurley was 41 years old, that she married Indian textile heir Arun Nayar. The two divorced in 2011.

Mariska Hargitay

Maybe Hargitay’s role as a sex crimes detective on “Law & Order” had Hargitay a little put off by men for a while. She didn’t marry until she was 40, to fellow “Law & Order” actor and writer Peter Hermann.

Jerry Seinfeld

Perhaps Seinfeld is as picky about women in real life as he is about them on his famous sitcom. The standup comedian and actor finally married at the age of 45 to Jessica Sklar, an author of cookbooks and the founder of charity organization Baby Buggy.

Ellen DeGeneres

DeGeneres came out as gay in the late 90’s, but it wasn’t until 2008 that she married actress Portia de Rossi. At the time of the wedding, DeGeneres was 40.

Sandra Bullock

Bullock waited until she was 41 to marry bad boy Jesse James. Unfortunately the marriage only lasted five years, and ended in James’ notorious infidelities.

Marcia Cross

The “Desperate Housewife” wasn’t so desperate to marry in any hurry. She married stockbroker Tom Mahoney when she was 45 years old, in 2006.
