[Watch] Tevin Campbell Returns To Music With NYC Performance, But How Does He Sound?
Who else couldn’t get enough of Tevin Campbell back in the day? I had a huge crush on the crooner, and his voice, to this day, is one of my favorites. But of course, aside from popping up at the BET Awards for an O’Jay’s tribute, Campbell has been on a hiatus from music for quite some time. His last album was released in 1999. But Campbell is back! He’s been touring for the last few months, and stopped in NYC this past weekend to remind folks and fans of what they’d been missing. Hitting the stage at B.B. Kings, Campbell performed some of his big hits, from “Round and Round” to “I’m Ready,” and my favorite, “Can We Talk.”
For me, Campbell sounded just as good and soulful as he did in the ’90s, tambourine in hand and bow tie on his neck. Those in the building at the time must have felt the same way I did about his vocals, because they were jamming and singing along to every word. He looked healthy and happy, and I’m all here for a return to music. R&B needs voices like his. Check out his performances of “Can We Talk” and “I’m Ready” below and let us know if you think Campbell’s still got it.
