Café Mocha and WBLS will be hosting the third annual Salute Her event on Saturday, June 21st, honoring model and RHOA star Cynthia Bailey; singer Gloria Gaynor; writer, relationship expert and Blood Sweat & Heels star Demetria Lucas; journalist Lola Ogunnaike; community activist Evelyn Mejil; entertainment publicist Simone Smalls; Sister2Sister publisher Jamie Foster-Brown; HBCU broadcast pioneer D. Cherie Lofton; and Ilyasah Shabazz, author and daughter of Malcolm X.
“Salute Her: Superwomen Making a Difference Awards Empowerment Day” will include a performance by Ruben Studdard, opportunities to network and an awards brunch, all celebrating women of color from the tri-state area and beyond. Hosts for the day will be actress Nicole Ari Parker and Angelique Perrin. The event will take place from 10am to 3pm at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center.
This year’s selection of notable women were chosen from among a pool of entrepreneurs, executives and entertainers who are also making a difference through their philanthropic efforts.
“You may look at this as a formidable job to narrow who we honor on any given year but we find this the joy of our process. This is where we are able to celebrate in the achievements of other women who have or may not have been awarded the validation for their work,” says Café Mocha creator and executive producer Sheila Eldridge.
“Our event is full of validation, love and empowerment for all those in attendance,” Eldridge continues.
Also in attendance will be the Gentle Treatment brand, who will also be presenting the Beauty Inside and Out Gentle Treatment Style Lounge. “As the platinum sponsor for the Salute Her Awards, we are continuing the legacy of empowering women of color through beauty. It is an honor to be a part of this powerful initiative,” says Kimberly Hairston, CMO of DRMJPC Brands. Sponsors also include Prudential and AARP.
